There is a ferry line from Stavanger to Tau which is used by about a million passengers a year, in large number tourists wanting to visit Preikestolen. In the summer season there is a direct bus to Preikestolenhytta from the ferry terminal.
A conspicuous white building of the Tau mill make the place quite distinguishable from the waterside. At the southern end of the bay, in which the ferry terminal is located, there is a marina offering all facilities. The entrance to the marina is from the south, and the guest places are located on the the left side. The marina is well protected, and the depth is sufficient for sailing yachts. The northern part of the marina has also several guest places, but it is so shallow there that only motorboats can use them.
At the quay there is a service building with showers and a toilet. There is also a washing machine and a dryer there. Follow the instructions on the table in the service building for payment. You will also find a password to WiFi there.
Bunkering station is located close to the mill. The marina has a six-tone crane and a workshop.
Within walking distance there is a shopping center, pub, pizzeria and a petrol station and an ATM.
The bus for Preikestolenhytta departs from the ferry terminal. The line is seasonal and is operated by two companies: Tide (you can buy a combined ticket with the ferry from Stavanger) and Boreal.
